What is the alternative to 'Alternative'? This term has been beaten to death and has lost its original meaning and purpose. The once avant-garde is now mainstream.  Everyone wants to know, "What's New"
One Step Beyond is a Queens based band formed in March 1989 by co-founders Urith Myree and Bob Valderrama.

They found talented drummer Tom McAllister, and after a lengthy search, found SusanWendelken,
the final piece of the musical puzzle.
It is not only that the band is half-male and half-female that makes this unit unique-it is the music.
Hard-edged, melodic and uncompromising, it truly sets One Step Beyond apart.
Their versatility and chemistry make the songs vibrant and the liveshows riveting.

Strong fan support helped One Step Beyond became a favorite on the New York club scene.
Their live and recorded performance garnered them overwhelming critical acclaim from local & national music publications, including Foundations, one of the industry's most influential magazines.

The resulting buzz led to openings for several national acts, and they have showcased in such  venues as The Ritz,
China Club, Webster Hall, CBGB's and TheContinental Divide.
They have also played shows inAlbany and New Jersey.

As clubs began to back away from the 'heavy' sound,One Step Beyond was one of the very few bands performing hard music to get the few available gigs.
To further increase their visibility, they scaled their most popular songs down to an acoustic level.
They gave performed this facet of their musical personality in places - like coffee houses, bookstores and'Superstores' - that would not have booked them otherwise.  This enabled them to perform in more places than ever without compromising the songs orchanging their fundamental style.

Fans have listened to the band do an acoustic set in the afternoon and then do a blistering electric  set that same night.
The band showcased that the Route One Music Festival in Virginia in May 1997, which was broadcast over the Internet.

This appearance led to their breakthrough on college radio.  To date, over70 stations from Vermont to Miami (to as far west asOklahoma) have played - and continue to play - their debut CD, "Misery Without The Drop D Tuning".

Recently they have traveled to some of these stations to perform on the air, do interviews, and play gigs in the area.

Several tracks from the CD have been featured in  motion picture film and television.  Grammy nominated producer/guitarist Joaquin Lievano has volunteered his expertise to their newest material and in producing their latest release.

This new CD, "One Step Beyond", casts a spotlight on their attention to songwriting on yet another this presents a band that cannot be ignored

See, hear and judge for yourself.

What's next?  The answer can only be sought with an open mind.
